Day 8 (Saturday 24) Cumbria, Lake District
From Carnforth, we made our way to Kendal via Kirby Lonsdale and Oxenholme. It's a long way around and more hills but the sights are excellent and roads are quiet. A bit of light rain about but nothing to worry about.
Stopping for lunch at Kendal, we then hit the A6 all the way to Carlisle. There was a 1500ft climb near Shap, which was long but at least it was gradual.

We were rewarded at the top by a nice downhill stretch and some great views of the lake district on our left.
Then a stop at Penrith for coffee and a brilliant selection of cakes, we could have eaten them all.
We then passed through to Carlisle by a bit of a roller coaster a road. Carlisle itself had really good bike lanes although we had to make sure we weren't too close to all the party goers, already drunk at 5pm.
A five
mile journey up the A7 lead us to the campsite.
A cracking meal filled us up, ready to hit Scotland tomorrow.
Just a reminder...
