Day 10 - Isle of Arran

Day 10 (Monday 26) Isle of Arran

Some of the best views seen so far married to some of the worst road surfaces.

Setting off we were immediately stopped by a sheep jam.

Quite a sight as they come racing towards you down the A road. After that it was straight up some hills with a lovely couple of lochs along the way.

Generally the roads were quiet and some good scenery.

Unfortunately the journey was slightly spoilt in East and South Ayrshire by the absolutely terrible road conditions. Potholes galore and really rough surfaces.

We met up with Janet and Gordon, our brilliant support team, at Ayr, and arranged to meet them at Adrossan to catch a ferry over to Isle of Arran. The crossing took 55 minutes and was almost £140 for 4 people and a motorhome.

Cheaper if you're just on your bike!

While on-board we had to have obligatory cake and coffee.

Reaching the other side we hopped back on to our bikes and headed for the campsite. Those 14 miles to the site were stunning. There's a good uphill section, rewarded by amazing views then a great downhill. One of the highlights of the whole journey so far.

Reaching the campsite, Janet and Gordon had already set up camp and all we had to do was dodge the persistent midges. They were everywhere and particularly liked Gordon.

Everyone fancied a walk after setting up, so we wandered walked along the road taking in the views. We had been told earlier that the deer population outnumbered the people by a large quantity. In the dark, we came to find this out for ourselves when we saw loads of them everywhere.

Even a stag was standing a few feet away from us and was quite content letting us take photographs.

Just a reminder...
As this is what we are doing it for... Please don't forget to pledge your donations of support. If you could only give 1p a mile for the 1050 miles we are doing it's £10.50 into the pot we are trying to raise - Help stop Cancer! Simply go to justgiving to leave your donation.
